Overlake Implements AI Tool for Clinical Note-Taking | News | 425business.com – 425business.com
Overlake Medical Center & Clinics has announced that it’s leveraging artificial intelligence to help draft clinical notes and summarize patient visits so providers can spend less time on paperwork and more time caring for patients.
Overlake is using Dragon Ambient eXperience Copilot, a Microsoft product that combines conversational, ambient, and generative AI to automatically draft clinical notes for immediate review and completion after each patient visit, a release said.
After a patient provides consent at the beginning of their visit, the software begins drafting notes in real time that immediately translate into Epic, Overlake’s electronic health record system, the release added.
“The psychological benefits have been the best part of this application,” said Christy Chan, Overlake Clinics family medicine physician, in a press statement. “The burden of having to remember all the details and urgency of closing notes is significantly removed.”
According to a nationwide survey conducted among 1,000 clinicians who used DAX technology, respondents reported saving seven minutes in note taking per patient encounter. The majority (79%) reported a better work-life balance, and 70% said the software helped alleviate feelings of burnout and fatigue, the release said.
Overlake said it plans to have DAX Copilot technology implemented in at least five clinics across the organization by mid-May.
