X Premium users can now read news summaries created by the company’s AI tool, Grok.

The “Stories on X” feature, announced by X’s engineering team, is described as a way for users to “see what the world is talking about.”

The tool is found in the Explore tab for Premium subscribers but is currently only available for web and iOS users. “Stories on X” are generated by X posts, and while some summarize specific news stories, others recap conversations happening on the platform, newsworthy or not.

The feature is similar to Twitter Moments, which was killed off in 2022. Rather than use AI, Moments relied on a group of human curators to put together tweets focused on news events and key conversations.

Like many AI tools. Grok’s summaries come with a disclaimer: “Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs.” We saw that in action last month when Grok promoted false news stories about world events, from claiming that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lost to his opponent before the election had happened to false reports about Iran hitting Tel Aviv.

In its current form, AI often misunderstands posts by humans and sometimes manufactures its own “facts.” So, if a summary you read on X seems questionable, don’t take it at face value. X also notes: “This story is a summary of posts on X and may evolve over time.”
